Собственно сабж.
У меня Nokia 6610i. Через irdadump определяется. Находится на порту /dev/ttyS1.
Но вот с gnokii проблема:

1/ После загрузки `service irda start` посмотрите что выдал dmesg....
2/ Посмотрите какие новые устройства появились в /dev/
Какая у Вас модель irda?
Что пишет производитель? Есть ли хоть какая-то документация и упоминание о чипе, на котором irda-устройство реализовано?

в /dev появилось устройство ircomm
модель tekram irmate 210
про чип пока ничего найти не могу, команда findchip -v ничего не показывает.

Обратите внимание на /usr/share/doc/irda-utils-0.9.16/README.irattach
/usr/share/doc/irda-utils-0.9.16/modprobe.conf.irda
IMHO, Там есть о Вашей irda. Скорее всего, необходимо добавить параметр в
[sergeil@homedesk sysconfig]$ cat /etc/sysconfig/irda
DONGLE=tekram
...
Но гарантировать не могу, поскольку попробовать не на чем...

Не стоит так сразу. Драйвер AT не повредит ваш телефон, не волнуйтесь. Это очень ограниченный драйвер (к сожалению я вынужден пользоваться им) подробно о его возможностях можно прочить на сайте. Но я уже скажу кратко: он работает почти со всеми телефонами (не обязательно nokia), но зато возможности примитивны, фактически это расширенный набор AT команд как для обычного модема. А именно что может быть доступно: просмотр/редактирование телефонной книги, может набирать номер, смотреть/посылать sms, редактировать календарь. У мнея все работает корректно только под utf8. С таким набором в общем это только для xgnokii. Чего не получиться с таким драйвером: mms, скачивание/закачивание файлов. Не бойтесь он ничего не повредит. Если все-таки есть сомнения, но можно сделать резервную копию телефона прогой nokia pcsuite. И помните, через irda не сможете получить доступ в ОС телефона, т.ч. даже если вы не осторожно что-то сделаете, то пострадают только данные. Я сам долго мучался с Nokia6020, несколько более продвинутая прога это gammu (это командная строка), пробуйте, пишите!

взял у знакомого шнур для телефона, с ним так же не получилось как и через ИК. Ставил gammu , кстате графическая оболочка под нее называется wammu, через нее тоже тишина.
Скачал последнюю версию gnokii 0.6.13 , поставил. Попробовал сперва со шнуром без запиночки соединился , обрадовался, начал через ИК, и тут снова облом

Скачай версию 6.13 она специально для твоего телефона
И еще в файле gnokiirc в строчке model должно прописано 6510, а не твой телефон(6610i)
И если поставишь версию 6.13 заново исправь gnokii, там еще есть новая строка для твоего телефона
